Sexual Assault Awareness Month
Sexual Assault Awareness Month takes place every April with a goal to raise awareness about sexual violence and to educate people about prevention of sexual violence in their communities.

Last year, MOCSA participated in more than 60 awareness events throughout the Kansas City metropolitan community. Take a look at some of our 2013 events below!

Event Name: Sexual Assault Awareness Day of Action Rally
Event Description: Join MOCSA staff and volunteers for a rally followed by the opportunity to share informational materials in the community.

Event Name: Make a Statement with Denim
Event Description: Come show your support and design jeans to make a statement against sexual assault. Jeans will be used in the Denim Day 2013 display April 15 – April 24 at UMKC.

Event Description: Each year in recognition of National Denim Day, MOCSA coordinates Denim Day events with local companies and organizations. Employers can participate by choosing a date in April and allowing employees to wear denim to work that day in exchange for a small donation to MOCSA. MOCSA can provide the organization with promo materials. Event Name: Take Back the Night
Event Description: MOCSA is working with the UMKC Women’s Center on a Take Back the Night event. This event will work to break the silence and violence that pervade our communities. Participants will rally together to support survivors of sexual violence, and the event will include speakers and expressions of support.

Event Name: Create Your Own Reality Free of Sexual Violence
Event Description: This is a creative event open to the public where people can create their own reality free of sexual violence. This year’s event will take place at the 9th Annual Troost Festival. Participants can stop by Ubuntu Village booth and make mala bracelets, which are used as an aide for quiet mediation.

Event Name: SAAM Awareness Campaign: Talk Early, Talk Often
Event Description: MOCSA will be promoting sexual assault and abuse awareness through various social media outlets this year. Participate in our Twitter campaign by tweeting at us @MOCSAkc. Write down on a piece of paper what “It’s time” to talk about concerning sexual assault awareness and prevention. Tweet your photo to us using #SAAMkc and mention @MOCSAkc. Also, check out our ManUp! and eMpower blogs during the month of April for updates.
